I see only this problem for an application:
Setting a custom font, lets say 'Ariel' (name read perhaps read from a config file) through Fl::set_font(FL_FREE_FONT, "Arial") will not work with Pango, but it will work with Xft. How should an application find out which Arial font name is the right one to use, when iterating through the list of fonts, searching for an Arial font, that has no style, as e.g. both 'Arial Regular' and 'Arial Black' don't have a bold or italic attribute set when queried with Fl::get_font(name, &attr) ?
