I think if you dig thru that bugzilla link you'll see there are some x11 oriented workarounds in place to support the transition, but from what I read the eventuality is those doors will be closed at some point, the argument being that gui code is not designed to run as root (think web browsers and movie players) which run enormous amounts of GUI library code (media libraries etc) that are not designed to be security hardened. Even polkit itself had a rather large privilege escalation vulnerability that apparently had been in there for >10 yrs before it was recognized.
