I'd guess avoiding using FLTK widgets within the item for speed/efficiency of really large trees might be best, in which case some event handling within the items might be best. This can probably best be done by overloading Fl_Tree::handle() to deliver events to items. I believe there's sufficient methods exposed in the API to do that.
Are you saying there's another way to achieve what I want without embedding a widget in the item? Can you elaborate more on this a approach? If I draw an icon in the item, from within draw_item_content() , how would I be able to detect a push event on this icon without an embedded widget?
