There's no general advantage in using the built-in libs rather than using the system libs.
Using the system libs (usually shared libs) has the advantage of making the executables smaller.
Reasons to use the built-in libraries include:
- there is no system lib easily available (e.g. Windows)
- compatibility: the system provides an incompatible version of the library
- portability: linking (statically) with the bunded libs creates more portable executables
