I don't think any system that does not use fork+exec to run the native file chooser should be attempted.

Here is an experiment I just made here:
1) build test/native-filechooser on Debian 12
2) copy the resulting executable file to Fedora39
3) run the copied native-filechooser under Fedora: the GTK file chooser runs OK.
