OK, pulled 7d58e2385452b8373448e3f91013a8cda39c7aa3 and created a new build folder.
All compiled OK, but when run I get the red GL panel with button, no gradient square.

Toggling from double to single-buffered and back, I do then see the gradient square, but as before the button disappears.
Other samples seem to be working just fine.

I do not know what can be happening of this works OK under 10.9 for you...
