I feel like I ought to be using a TOTP app to access GH (and "things" more generally, I suppose) but never quite got around to it.
Um... so... does anyone have any recommendations for a TOTP app that I can have on my phone, say, and that they think works well?

I'm using FreeOTP (https://freeotp.github.io/) as I wrote before. It's open source on GitHub.

Rumors say that you can read out the "secret" from the phone though. This may be a security issue (don't lose your phone).

Some password safe apps may also be able to generate the tokens once you set them up with the necessary definitions. I know that KeePassXC can do this.

There are also some Linux programs that can generate the tokens. I experimented a little with one of them (don't remember which one) and for me the problem was that I needed to enter the secret on the commandline. However, there are also open source libraries  so you can write your own TOTP generation programs pretty easily (never did that though). The standard is not too complicated to do it even from scratch if you like. ;-)
