Hmm, I suspect that's an awful lot of work for anyone to undertake. I know I've been thinking about it, but I keep putting it off because it is too much...
Also, Direct2D is limiting in terms of backwards compatibility; you need at least Vista, whereas GDI+ goes a long way back!
Well, while I'm writing this, another question came up: IIRC the
gleam scheme draws the color gradients as adjacent horizontal lines.
Wouldn't this be affected by the performance penalty as well?
I had that thought, but I do not think it can be so - the gradient is largely horizontal lines, so should not trigger the GDI+ code paths here?
