It seems clear to me that this is caused by our file named VERSION in
the FLTK root directory which I asked Bob to rename and build again.
New build on another system: macOS 11.3 with M1 processor: this time, I get the error mentionned above, and indeed the error disappears when file VERSION is renamed.
I've seen that has been fixed already in the git repository.
Besides this, both configure-based and CMake-based builds run OK.
