I'm working on this, but one part of this STR is platform specific, and
another
part is cross-platform:

1. Windows specific: add .rc file and Windows .ico file
   @OP (dfleury2): thanks for providing an updated .ico file.
   This file will be used in the future.

2. All platforms except Wayland: create an icon at runtime from a PNG file,
   which already exists. Optionally an SVG image could be used in the
future.

3. Wayland (and also X11): add a .desktop file to assign an icon. This will
   need to be installed in a proper place.

Point 1 will enable showing an icon of the program in the Windows explorer
   or (some) Windows file choosers.

Points 2 and 3 display the icon in the taskbar and when switching tasks
with
   ctrl/tab. There is no need to use platform specific code for this since
   FLTK 1.4.

I'll post an update and close this STR when done...
