I rebuilt 1.1.7 and 1.1.x-svn with only "--enable-xdbe",
and compiled your test program, runnin both side by side.
They seem pretty close.. taking several minutes to advance
90 degrees.
The 1.1.7 is a little bit ahead, maybe by 5 or 10 degrees
by the time 90 degrees have advanced, and 20 degrees by the
time 180 was reached some many minutes later.
The speed of both compared to speed with FLTK /not/ configured with
--enable-xdbe are for me about the same.. all run very slow.. taking
several minutes just to move 90 degrees.
Tests were done with fedora3 on an HP Pavilion 750N using the
default NVIDIA motherboard graphics hardware. Xorg.log says
it detects the graphics card as a "RIVA TNT2 Model 64".
