Article #1182: flruler 1.04

Created at 23:29 Apr 23, 2012 by greg.ercolano

A "pixel ruler" program for measuring the pixel size of on-screen elements.

Intended for GUI debugging to verify widget separations and sizes, though useful for general computer graphics debugging purposes, including measuring pixel distances of images, web applications, etc.

It will be perfect if this can be rotated with an angle. Many times there are situation that you need to calculate and measure an object using an angle for the ruler. Great work .. thanks.

An interesting request!

I think we can rotate text at arbitrary angles (though I haven't played with this), or at very least, the ruler markings could be made into an image and arbitrarily rotated.

The window would be trickier; I'm not sure FLTK 1.3.x supports non-rectangular windows (ie. rectangles at angles other than 90 degrees). I think 2.x (and by extension, 3.x?) supports non-rectangular windows, and if so, this could be done.

I'll wait for someone working on the internals to write an example program ;)
